Laura Ogas
Laura Ogas is a longtime volunteer with Special Olympics Georgia and is heavily involved with her local chapter in Dalton, Ga.
Laura has helped so many athletes in her area serving as a volunteer and coach. She not only spends several hours a week training with her athletes but she also helps them as they compete and has become like family to many of them. Laura has also helped the Special Olympics Georgia office in bringing together the State Fall Games for the very first time in Dalton in 2011. Coming to a new city to host a weekend long games is difficult and Special Olympics Georgia relies on people from the city to help bring awareness about the program and volunteers to help out.
Laura brings awareness and helps the mission of Special Olympics Georgia, which is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. This is what makes Laura a Daily Point of Light.
