Erico Corbett grew up in a low-income neighborhood where positive role models were few and far between. But, he didn’t let the negative images around him cloud his vision for the future or keep him from helping others. Erico works with students at the elementary level via several programs that he initiated, including “Adopt an Underclassman Mentoring/Tutorial Program. Erico has engaged, educated, and motivated fifty-five students from ninth through twelfth grade at Slater Elementary School and Carver Early College High School to strive for academic success.

“Erico Corbett leads by example,” said his mentor Thomas Gosha, a teacher at Carver. “He has set a standard of academic excellence and a commitment to his community for himself and his peers. ‘Be the change you want to see’ — he is living that at the age of 18 years old, and this program will remain in place far after he has moved onto college….”
