CARRIE ELLIOTT

Carrie Elliott directs a six-year continuing program at her high school’s elementary center, which is directed towards four-year olds. The center utilizes high school students to mentor students in lower grades that are somewhat behind in their class-work. This program enhances the ability of the elementary school teachers to reach more students at risk and prevent others from getting into that category. As the program’s director for the past two years, Carrie has been responsible for planning, direction, scheduling, recruiting, collecting and dissemination of information and trouble- shooting.

In addition, Carrie is a part of the high school Service Program that boasts of a membership of more than 300 students. This program serves as a clearinghouse for agencies and people or groups in need of volunteers for an event or an ongoing short or long-term requirement, taking place throughout the Capital Area of south central Pennsylvania.

Elliott has been an active part of many volunteer programs and organizations. She was a member of the 1999-2001 Service Program Executive Board, assists the student coordinator in achieving the goals and workload of a 300-plus-student roster, and volunteers at the Shalom House, a Jewish soup kitchen for those in need. She collects food at collection points and loads trucks for the South Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, volunteers as a referee for the East Pennsboro Lady’s Soccer League, volunteers for the Wise Ones Program, assists in raising funds for local fire- stations, and is a Playground Pal. In addition, she is a part of the Burst Program Babysitting, a tutor for elementary students, Tri-County Alliance for Youth, Girls State, Girls Nation, school board student representative, student representative on the school district Strategic Planning Committee, Co-President of the Student Council, Treasurer of the National Honor Society, and Senior Class Historian.

Carrie maintains a 96% grade point average and has been honored with many awards. She received 24 various academic awards, scholastic certificates of merit in poetry and certificates for essay writing. She received an honorable mention in the Shippensburg History Day event, was the Outstanding Delegate at the Model United Nations in 1999, and she was the American Legion’s Girls State representative as well as a Pennsylvania Senator at Girls Nation.

Though she is still young, Carrie Elliott has chosen to pursue excellence in all she does. She maintains an outstanding GPA while being in mostly advanced placement courses, and also takes the time to give back to her community and our nation.
