PARTNERSHIP FOR NATIONAL SERVICE

Directing national grants to meet local needs.

The Partnership for National Service (PNS), a program of the Points of Light Foundation, administers the Service as Strategy Initiative (SASI), A model for building partnership and leveraging resources in support of community and national service. We seek to educate and encourage communities and funders to expand the landscape of philanthropy and build multiple-sector networks of national and community service. SASI has proven to be a laboratory for multi-sector, philanthropic collaboration at the local, regional and national levels -- and for capacity strengthening of local institutions to strategically address critical needs within their communities and leverage resources.

There is a wonderful story to be told about SASI. In fact, there are plenty of personal and public stories to be shared about this innovative model and the resourceful communities, foundations and nonprofits that make up the portfolio of striking results and experiences.

Attention FUNDERS:
The Service as Strategy Initiative is an innovative, cost-effective model that looks beyond national service, and represents a compelling paradigm for expanding philanthropy. As such, the Foundation is seeking support for an enhanced, 3-5 year program (beginning October 2002), potentially connecting a diverse consortium of national and local grantmakers and nonprofits.
