In the United States today there are over 35 million adults 65 and older and 77 million baby boomers between the ages of 40 and 58. The baby boomers alone make up more than 27% of the population. As staggering as the sheer size of these two groups is the additional years of health and vitality that they have been given.
And considering that volunteering is what people look forward to most in retirement, today's and tomorrow's older adults are better positioned to help solve serious social problems than ever before.
To further engage older adults in volunteer service, the Points of Light Foundation and Volunteer Center National Network have launched the
50+ Volunteering Initiative.
