POSITION SUMMARY
Points of Light Institute (POLI) is seeking a bright and experienced individual with a strong accounting background to join our finance team as Director of Finance and Accounting. The Director of Finance and Accounting is responsible for the budgeting, audit management and reporting processes required to effectively and efficiently manage an enterprise-wide budget of $34 M. The Director of Finance and Accounting works with the CFO to ensure internal controls and accuracy in all aspects of financial management including accounting, internal and external reporting, audits, monitoring of cash flow, all banking functions and other requirements specific to non-profit accounting. This position requires a conceptual understanding and professional experience in non-profit accounting practices in order to work on complex assignments with some degree of independence. The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer, Points of Light Institute.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:
- Serve as finance lead for annual budgeting to ensure that forecasts are in line with desired results
- Provide cash flow analysis and projections
- Prepare an annual accounting calendar that outlines all report preparation requirements and deadlines.
- Oversee the organizational consolidation of financial results and prepare consolidated financial statements in compliance with GAAP
- Prepare financial reports providing accurate analysis of organization's results
- Create well documented, easily retrieved working papers and audit trails for all work
- Ensure excellent customer service by providing timely, accurate and relevant information to all stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with federal regulations, specifically ensuring subgrantee compliance
- Provide guidance, supervision and review of finance and accounting team to ensure that job responsibilities are met and are in line with organizational goals and objectives
- Work collaboratively with POLI Finance team to ensure timely integration of financial information for POLI monthly close, consolidation, year-end close, annual audit and other ad hoc requirements as requested
- Oversee the preparation and filing of statutory financial reports
- Serve as a key business partner and valuable resource to functional managers
- Work in conjunction with outside auditors to complete annual audit
- Excellent attention to detail
- Applied knowledge of GAAP, applicable to non-profits
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics, FRX, MS Excel and Word
- Strong management, analytic and organizational skills
- Ability to create and manage complex accounting and reporting systems
- Strong working knowledge of nonprofit accounting and reporting
- Knowledge of federal regulations
- Previous general ledger accounting experience including preparing entries that require professional accounting judgment, analyzing balance sheet accounts, reconciling bank statements, reconciling subsidiary systems to the general ledger and analytical review.
- Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written) and process optimization

- Ability to deal with unexpected and/or delicate situations calmly and with sound judgment
- An ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure
- Ability to train and develop stakeholders, both informally and formally, to ensure their understanding of policies, systems, procedures and reports.
- Minimum 5 years experience in accounting and financial reporting
- Consumer / retail internet and/or Big 5 experience a plus; understanding of nonprofit accounting preferred
- Degree in Accounting, CPA and/or MBA preferred
- Experience overseeing organizational reporting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cost Accounting and other transactional accounting functions
- Familiarity with OMB Circulars and Federal Regulations preferred
