In 2004, Volunteer Centers played a significant role in addressing the needs of local communities devastated by Hurricanes Charley, Francis, Ivan and Jeanne. The response to the hurricanes was the largest recorded volunteer effort in U.S. history. More than 140,000 volunteers responded, giving nearly six million hours of time.
