The Daily Point of Light Award is a competitive award given out Monday to Friday throughout the year to honor one exceptional volunteer or volunteer effort from
across the entire nation each weekday. The award is a unique, individual way to recognize your loyal volunteers on a national level.
Points of Light Institute commemorated the 20th anniversary year of the Points of Light movement in 2009, and it was a year filled with historical moments for the organization and
for the service sector as a whole.
As the Haiti recovery efforts intensify, HandsOn Network continues to structure its efforts for maximum impact, realizing that recovery and restoration will be an
extremely long-term effort, with different skills needed at different times along the way. For the time being, money, not feet on the ground or material goods,
is still what is needed most. That said, there ARE a number of emerging volunteer opportunities needing support.
What We Are Doing:
What We Are Doing:
Points of Light Institute and HandsOn Network celebrated MLK Day of Service by bringing together more than 100,000 people to serve in 1,500 HandsOn projects and engage in more
than 150 community dialogues. We also held our inaugural MLK Day Virtual Town Hall, connecting the world to live video of service projects and civic dialogues happening through
HandsOn Action Centers in seven cities.
In collaboration with civic and service organizations and our network of 250 affiliates and 70,000 nonprofit partners, we are engaging more than 100,000 volunteers in 1,500
service projects for MLK Day. We are also connecting people live to projects and dialogues happening in cities across the U.S. through
www.handsonnetwork.org!
All arms of Points of Light Institute are extending a hand where they can do the most good in the first phase of the Haiti relief effort.
Points of Light Institute CEO Michelle Nunn will be on Twitter answering questions about MLK Day Thursday, January 14 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST!
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service 2010 marks the beginning of the year for service as millions of
Americans honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by volunteering in their communities. The day builds upon President Obama’s resonant and reiterated call to
service and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
2010 promises to be another landmark year for civic engagement. Points of Light Institute launched Friday a first-of-its-kind program through HandsOn Network, which will
inspire a new generation of civic mindedness and volunteer leaders.
The first few days of the Give A Day. Give A Disney Day. program have been an awesome reminder of the passion of the volunteer spirit. Across the U.S., tens of
thousands of volunteers have already made a commitment to get active in their communities.
For volunteers who experienced difficulties during the registration process, we have added capacity to the system and registration should now be a smooth process.
