The Points of Light Foundation maintains an active development program and is the recipient of multiple grants that fund innovative work undertaken in numerous programs. Two of the Foundation's most creative programs are discussed below.

- Reaching out to faith volunteers, and developing the capacity for faith institutions to facilitate volunteering is a priority for the Foundation. With the generous support of the Lilly Foundation, the Foundation engineered a merger with Interfaith Community Ministries.
