"To the Point" Covers Volunteering from California to the Middle East

The latest issue of "To the Point," the newsletter of the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network, has a variety of articles that address volunteering in the United States and around the world:

  • Maria Shriver, the first lady of California , discusses her volunteer initiative, CaliforniaVolunteers, the largest statewide volunteer-matching network in the nation.
  • The American Red Cross and the Points of Light Foundation have signed an agreement that will secure a cooperative relationship between the national and field offices of the two organizations, with special emphasis on preparing for and responding to disaster situations.
  • The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has contracted with the Points of Light Foundation to create the UAE's first nationwide volunteer initiative, called Takatof. This effort has been arranged by the Emirates Foundation, a partnership of the public and private sectors committed to improving the quality of life in the UAE.
  • The 2007 National Conference on Volunteering and Service will take place July 16-18 in Philadelphia . As many as 2,600 service leaders from around the world, including former President George H.W. Bush, will assemble to share ideas about the culture of service in this nation.
