Hurricane Relief Project to Be Launched February 3 in Miami
"We Are Family" CD Artists to Perform at Super Bowl Fest
WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 31, 2007)—The City of North Miami will come alive during the We Are Family Super Bowl Fest at the Museum of Contemporary Art Plaza on February 3 with superstar performers Sister Sledge, BeBe Winans and Bishop Paul Morton from the Baptist Church Fellowship.
The Super Bowl Fest is sponsored by the National Alliance to Nurture the Aged and Youth (NANAY) and the City of North Miami in partnership with the Magic Johnson Foundation and the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network, a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C.
The event marks the release of a CD-DVD featuring an all-star remake of the 1979 Sister Sledge hit, "We Are Family". The project is a collaboration of the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network and Grammy-winning producer Rodney Jerkins. The CD-DVD will be released on February 27.
"We are launching the ‘We Are Family’ CD at the Super Bowl Fest to benefit displaced hurricane victims and to support family strengthening and disaster preparedness all over the United States," says Robert Goodwin, President and CEO of the Points of Light Foundation.
After the devastating hurricanes in 2005, Sister Sledge, Patti LaBelle, Chris Brown, George Clinton, Brian McKnight, Rodney Jerkins, Mary Mary, Bebe Williams, Ciara, Lyfe Jennings, Ray J, Atiba, Alfre Woodard and Serena Williams joined together to release a new version of the song, under the auspices of the Foundation.
Bishop Paul Morton is a world-renowned singer, a dynamic preacher and teacher. In 1999, Bishop Morton released his nationally recognized solo CD (album) entitled "Crescent City Fire." Included among his other musical accomplishments are five albums with the Greater St. Stephen Mass Choir and two recordings with the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship Mass Choir. He was also featured on the all-star recording of the hit song, "Something Inside So Strong," a tribute to Rosa Parks.
BeBe Winans, a groundbreaking inspirational, R&B and Gospel vocalist, writer and producer, who has won four Grammy Awards, ten Dove Awards, six Stellar Awards, two NAACP Awards and a Soul Train Award, will also be at the event. A multi-faceted artist, Winans not only has a successful recording career but also recently launched a syndicated radio show and returned to acting in both film and theater.
Other performing artists include AyaBombe, The Branches, Dinggin, Heart and Sol, Lee's Day Band, Malyrie, Rorin Taeko Japanese Drummers and Tama Leao's Polynesian Dancers.
The We Are Family Super Bowl Fest will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Plaza, 770 NE 125 Street, North Miami, Florida. Admission is free. For more information, please call (305) 981-3232
